An upper level low which is currently situated in SE New Mexico will continue to push away from Texas...Over the past several days it's been this same upper level low that has been responsible for the rain chances that we've seen. But as we head into Friday, things will begin to change...and boy, will the heat be on! We will most likely see the hottest temperatures of the year so far starting Saturday all the way through the work week (with possibly the heat extending into the following weekend). The reason for the intense heat is a strong ridge of high pressure that will start to build during the early weekend...and will continue on Monday-Wed, where temperatures in some areas could be in the mid 100's (with heat indices even higher!). Now because of the rain that we've seen over the past several days, the ground is relatively moist (some areas saw more rain than others), but as that moisture in the ground begins to evaporate due to the heat, heat indices at the start of this heat wave I suspect will be in the 108-113 range. So if you do have any outdoor plans this weekend, PLEASE stay properly hydrated and take it easy!
Below is an image from the 18Z GFS model showing our area being completely dominated by a strong high pressure system on Monday...
